Howard's 32 Points Not Enough as Bulldogs Bounce SCR-I 61-59r

La Plata had no answer for Lucas Howard on Thursday night, but the Bulldogs slowed down the rest of the team just enough to hold off the visitors from Scotland County for the 61-59 victory.

SCR-I built a 15-11 advantage in the first period. Howard and Kyler Burkhiser each had six points and Chris Jackson added a three-pointer to get the Tigers off to a solid start.

Jacob Blessing caught fire in the second period, canning three three-pointers. Howard poured in eight points in the paint as Scotland County extended the lead to 32-28 at the half.

La Plata picked up the defensive pressure in the third period. Howard had a pair of field goals as did Brice Cowell, but SCR-I was held to just 10 points. That allowed the Bulldogs to pull ahead 43-432 with just eight minutes left to play.

Howard had a huge fourth period, scoring 12 points, but it wasn't enough thanks to the three-point shooting by La Plata. Matt Safely connected three times from behind the arc as La Plata held on for the 61-59 win.

Howard led all scorers with 32 points. Blessing added nine points for the Tigers. Scotland County dropped to 9-12 on the season with the loss.

La Plata was led in scoring by Tanner Riggins with 22 points. Safely finished with 13 points
