Rams Rally in Extra Innings to Top SCR-I 7-6

The Tigers led virtually the entire game until it mattered the most, in the end, as Schuyler County rallied for an 8-7 victory in extra innings in a key Tri-Rivers Conference game held Wednesday night in Lancaster.

Scotland County jumped on top of the Rams 5-0 in the top of the first inning. Zach Miller led off with a base hit. After Austin Thrasher was hit by a pitch, Tyler Buford walked to load the bases. Jacob Blessing delivered an RBI single to plate the first run. Walks to Jacob Hull and Chris Jackson forced in two more runs before Marcus Jenkins delivered a two-run single to make it 5-0.

Schuyler County trimmed the deficit to 5-2 after an error allowed a pair of runs to score in the bottom of the first off starter Cordie Kigar.

Kigar held the Rams in check until the fifth inning.

SCR-I made it 6-1 in the fourth when Kigar singled and came in to score on an RBI double by Thrasher.

Schuyler County strung together four hits in the fifth inning and plated three runs to trim the lead to 6-5.

The Rams extended the game with a run in the seventh but the winning run was gunned down at the plate to force extra innings.

SCR-I failed to score in the top of the eighth and the Rams completed the rally in the bottom of the inning scoring an unearned run to secure the 7-6 win.

Kigar took the loss, pitching 7 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs, two earned, on seven hits. He struck out 14 and did not walk a batter.

Jenkins was 2-4 with two RBIs. Kigar also went 2-4 at the plate as did Landyn Swearingen.
