SCR-I Shutout by #4 Ranked Class 2 South Calloway

Freshman Aaron Buford fires a pass behind the block from Ryan Slaughter during the Tigers' jayvee win over Highland on Monday night.

A three-hour bus trip is bad enough by itself, but when you have the #4 ranked team in the state awaiting your arrival at their college-like facility, it has the makings for a long night.

That was the case, figuratively, for Scotland County's football program, which traveled to Mokane on Friday night to take on undefeated, and unscored-upon South Calloway.

The Bulldogs made it three straight shutouts to open 2013, blanking SCR-I 55-0 to improve to 3-0.

Scotland County dropped to 1-2 on the year in a game that saw only one offensive first down for the Tigers.

The two teams traded punts on their first possessions of the night, but it was all downhill from there for the Tigers' defense, as South Calloway scored on its next six possessions to insure a running clock in the second half.

It doesn't get any easier for the Tigers, who will again board the bus for another journey on Friday night, this time to Fayette where SCR-I will do battle with Windsor High School of Henry County. The home-and-away series will once again be played at a neutral site, with the University of Central Missouri hosting the contest.

Windsor fell to 2-1 on the year with a 49-6 loss to Tipton on Friday night.

The Tigers have faced state ranked teams twice in the first three weeks of 2013. SCR-I opened the year hosting Salisbury, which has moved up to the fifth ranking in Missouri Class 1. South Calloway is ranked #2 in Missouri Class 2. Future opponent Milan is currently ranked #6 in the state in Class 1 and any shot at a district title will have to go through #2 ranked Westran, one of the top teams with SCR-I in Missouri Class 1 District 5.
