Tigers take Third Place With 55-47 Win Over La Plata

Scotland County overcame a halftime deficit and held on late to best La Plata 55-47 on Saturday in Novinger to bring home third place from the tournament.
The Tigers opened in solid fashion, building a 15-9 lead behind three-pointers from Cordie Kigar and Jacob Blessing. Bailey Johnston added six points in the paint to help build the early cushion.
La Plata answered with a 14-7 run in the second period to pull ahead 23-22 at the break. Kigar had a pair of field goals and Brice Cowell converted a three-point play for the lone points for SCR-I.
SCR-I got big man Lucas Howard involved in the offense in the third period. After going scoreless in the first 16 minutes, the senior center had six points as SCR-I regained the lead. Caleb Doubet and Jacob Hull came off the bench to add key buckets as SCR-I went on top 36-34 with just eight minutes to play.
The Tigers began to pull away in the fourth quarter. Caleb and Zach Doubet each had field goals as did Kigar and Cowell before SCR-I turned to the free throw line to seal the victory. Scotland County made 11 of 18 free throws in the final period to hold off La Plata for the 55-47 win.
Kigar had a season-high 17 points as Scotland County evened its record on the year at 2-2. Johnston added 11 points and Howard finished with eight.
